FedEx and Stripe plan to use logistics signals in small-business financing. Here is what retailers can prepare before the planned 2027 launch.
Your delivery records could become part of how a lender assesses your business.
On 6 October 2026, FedEx Dataworks and Stripe announced a partnership to use logistics information in small-business financing analysis. Both companies published the announcement that day. The first joint solution is planned for early 2027.
For e-commerce founders, the practical question is whether orders, payments and deliveries can be traced through the same system.
FedEx Dataworks plans to supply operational signals, including shipment activity, inventory movement and fulfillment performance, to help inform Stripe Capital's financing analysis.
The aim is to give lenders more evidence of how a business operates alongside its financial records. The companies say they want to expand financing access for tens of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses.
That is a target. The announcement does not establish funding eligibility for Nigerian businesses or guarantee approval, cheaper borrowing or faster decisions. Business owners will need to check the eventual product's availability and terms.
Our practical takeaway is to make your operating records easier to reconcile.
A store may record a paid order, while its warehouse tracks dispatch separately and its courier reports delivery elsewhere. Connecting those records gives your team a clearer way to explain what happened to each sale.
Start with one order reference shared across checkout, payment confirmation, inventory and delivery tracking. Keep timestamps for dispatch, delivery, cancellations and refunds. Record failed deliveries rather than counting every shipment as a completed sale.
These records can help your team investigate missing payments, delayed orders and differences between reported sales and fulfilled orders. They may also support future financing assessments where a provider accepts operational data.
For Nigerian retailers and exporters, this is a reason to review existing order records, without assuming access to the planned product.
Ask your developer for an export that connects paid orders to shipment status and refunds. Check a sample against courier records and bank settlements. Restrict access to customer details and document what a financing partner would receive before sharing data.
Choose one month of orders and reconcile it from payment to delivery before adding another dashboard.
