📅 Tech News Roundup : Monday, February 9, 2026
Here’s what’s moving the tech world today from massive semiconductor deals to national science strategies and exciting gaming announcements.
🤖 Amazon & STMicroelectronics Strike a Big Deal
In financial markets today, STMicroelectronics shares jumped sharply after announcing a strategic, multi-billion-dollar semiconductor deal with Amazon Web Services. This partnership, part semiconductor supply, part future investment opportunity boosted STMicro’s valuation and sparked renewed optimism in chip markets. Amazon’s broader AI investments were also front and center in investor conversations, even as its own stock stayed relatively flat during early trading.
This development highlights the continued race for AI-ready hardware and the importance of semiconductor partnerships in powering the next generation of cloud and AI services.
🇨🇳 China Reaffirms Science & Tech Self-Reliance
Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke today about accelerating science and technology self-reliance as part of China’s broader economic and national development strategy. Xi framed this push as essential to building a modern socialist country, emphasizing indigenous innovation and reduced dependency on foreign tech.
This comes amid growing global competition over semiconductors, AI, and next-generation communications and could influence future tech policy and global supply chains.
💼 EU Readies Trade Tools That Could Impact U.S. Tech
The European Union’s recently unveiled anti-coercion trade instrument-dubbed a “trade bazooka” by analysts is being positioned to counter unfair economic pressure in trade disputes. While the tool’s focus isn’t tech-exclusive, experts suggest it could soon affect major U.S. tech exporters if invoked against non-EU economic practices.
How this plays out could reshape international tech competition and market access in key growth regions especially for hardware and software companies.
💰 Crypto & AI Investment News
Bitmine Immersion Technologies announced today that its Ethereum holdings have swelled to over 4.3 million ETH, worth billions, as it continues scaling its crypto-mining and AI-related operations. Their staking strategy now forms a large part of their balance sheet and long-term expansion plans.
Market watchers see this as part of a broader trend where blockchain and AI ecosystems increasingly intersect, and where large-scale crypto holdings begin to play a strategic role beyond speculative investing.
